David Youngs is a multi-instrumentalist based in Cambridge, UK. In recent years he has been focusing intensely on the acoustic guitar, developing a percussive, finger-style approach to produce instrumental works often featuring unusual yet accessible time signatures and scales. His contemporary, progressive playing has been compared to that of the late great Eric Roche crossed with the freedom and lightness heard on Michael Hedges’ early works.
In a burgeoning percussive acoustic guitar scene featuring an array of talented rapid-fire stylists it is this detailed attention to harmonic and compositional integrity which sets him apart from some of his peers and is repeatedly reflected in reviews of his work. As Guitarist magazine succinctly stated - 'a human quality that can be the missing link between incredible technique and musical meaning'.
Continuing to compose following this maxim, David is currently recording his next CD in the studio and continues to perform live at arts festivals, acoustic clubs and guitar events.
David will be performing on the Acoustic Cafe at 16:00 on Sunday 11 September.
